ᵅᵝPinene (Pine): Energizing. Feelings of alertness and focus are common in strains containing high levels of pinene. Short term memory retention may also be improved, and creative inspiration can be stimulated through pinene’s cerebral properties. Pinene is also known to counteract some of the adverse effects of THC, such as paranoia.
ᵝCaryophyllene (Spicy, woody, cloves): Euphoric. A combination of anecdotal evidence and research has indicated that caryophyllene’s health benefits include analgesia and a reduction in systemic inflammation. Caryophyllene has also been shown to be helpful in the treatment of anxiety and depression.
Myrcene (Cloves, earthy, herbal): Sedative, calming and relaxing effect. It is known to have anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and pain-relieving (analgesic) properties.
³Carene (Sweet, earthy, piney): Creative. The effects are deeply introspective and motivational and can be great for fighting fatigue as well as chronic pain, stress and even appetite loss. Three carene may be an effective contributor towards combating fibromyalgia, arthritis, and osteoporosis, in addition to possibly promoting memory retention and mental sharpness.
Terpineol (Pine, floral, herbal): Relaxing. Terpineol is one of the contributors to the feeling of sedation when consuming cannabis. For patients with severe dysfunctional pain and inflammation, terpineol can provide therapeutic effects to reduce the severity and consistency of flare-ups.
Linalool (Floral): Calming. Also known to carry anti-anxiety, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, linalool can also aid with insomnia due to its sedative nature. Linalool has a calming effect on the body and mind, acting as a potent muscle relaxer and possible anti-depressant and anti-psychotic. Linalool vapors have been shown to reduce levels of anxiety and depression-like behaviors.
Eucalyptol (Eucalyptus, minty, earthy): Uplifting. Studies have suggested the terpene’s effectiveness in combating sinus and colon inflammation. In a roughly similar fashion as tea tree oil – eucalyptol exhibits powerful anti-bacterial effects, having shown itself effective against E. coli, Enterobacter, and Staphylococcus.
Limonene (Lemon, citrus): Invigorating. It is understood to help increase mental focus and attention, as well as benefiting our general well being. There is anecdotal evidence that it is beneficial for sexual health. Some products on the market today use limonene to treat depression and anxiety. It is also a natural insect repellent!
